Our board-certified doctors offer the latest treatment alternatives to surgery, together with a unique "whole-patient" approach that truly sets our practice apart. We create a customized treatment plan for each patient that may include physical therapy, sports medicine and pain management as well as chiropractic and acupuncture to significantly reduce the pain of:
- Osteoarthritis in the hip or knee
- Stress fractures
- Tears or injuries to the meniscus and the four ligaments of the knee-including the anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL
In New Jersey, the one place many patients trust for advanced, non-invasive therapies of such painful conditions is The Spine & Sports Health Center.
We've successfully treated thousands of people just like you whose lives have been disrupted by hip, knee and leg pain caused by:
- Osteoarthritis of the hip and knee, which is the most common type of arthritis and affects more than 27 million Americans.
- Knee ligament injuries or tears. There are four knee ligaments–the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments (ACL and PCL, respectively) and the medial and lateral collateral ligaments (MCL and LCL, respectively)–that impact the stability of the knee. When one of them is stretched too far it can become injured or tear, which causes both pain as well as the feeling that your knee is unstable or "giving out."
- Tears of the labrum, the cartilage that lines the hip. Common among athletes and ballet dancers, this condition causes pain and the feeling that your hip joint is "catching" as you move.
- Meniscus injuries or tears. The "shock absorber" of the knee, tearing or injuring the meniscus is common among athletes in high-contact sports. Such injuries cause stiffness, pain and swelling over a few days and may happen in conjunction with an ACL tear.
- Knee sprains, which occur when your knee ligaments are stretched due to trauma or overuse.
- Knee effusions, also known as "water on the knee." Such fluid build-up can be a symptom of another condition, such as a sprain.
- Patellofemoral syndrome, a condition that can cause pain, stiffness and a "grating" sensation when your knee is flexed. This condition, also known as chondromalacia patellae, is often responsive to physical therapy.
- Stress fractures or tiny hairline fractures in the lower leg.
- Shin splints. Usually found in athletes, particularly runners, this condition produces a throbbing ache that has several possible causes–including an underlying muscle problem or foot overpronation–and therefore requires a medical diagnosis to help ensure proper treatment.
- Hip dysplasia, a malformation that can be painful and also lead to arthritis.
We also work with many individuals who are recovering from hip, knee or other joint surgery, combining customized pain management with a proactive physical therapy and rehabilitation plan to help restore function, strength and flexibility following surgery.
