Sciatica pain caused by a lumbar disc can range from being a minor disruption in your life to becoming downright debilitating. You may experience:
- Constant pain in one side of your buttock or leg
- Pain that originates in the low back and goes all the way down your leg
- More pain when you're standing or sitting
- "Pins-and-needles" sensation, numbness or weakness
However, if the herniated disc is in your neck (cervical), the resulting pinched nerve may cause you to experience tingling and discomfort in your arm.
At The Spine & Sports Health Center, sciatica treatment begins with a very thorough evaluation and an initial consultation with one of our board-certified doctors who focuses on getting to the heart of your pain as quickly as possible. Your doctor may prescribe diagnostic testing such as an X-ray or MRI as well as an electrodiagnostic testing to record how the nerves are functioning.
Based on your in-person evaluation and test results, your doctor will create a customized sciatica therapy plan that may include:
- Pain Management techniques that may include medications and epidural steroid injections delivered with extreme precision for highly effective, lasting results.
- Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation to restore flexibility, strength and function.
Your plan also may include such alternative approaches as chiropractic adjustments that help patients find relief and get back on their feet quickly, as well as acupuncture, the traditional Chinese medicine technique.
