Shoulder Impingement

Shoulder impingement, also referred to as shoulder impingement syndrome, occurs when there is continual friction of the rotator cuff between the upper arm bone (humerus) and the top outer edge of the shoulder (acromion). This friction causes inflammation and swelling of the rotator cuff, which results in pain and discomfort during shoulder movements.

What is the best treatment for shoulder impingement?

Shoulder impingement can often be treated through various interventional pain management techniques without the need for surgery. Some of the techniques we utilize at The Spine & Sports Health Center for shoulder impingement include:

  • Shoulder joint steroid injections
  • Platelet rich plasma injections
  • Nerve blocks

In some cases, we may also recommend additional treatment modalities, such as physical therapy and chiropractic care.
